2005-08-17 [Nightshadow]: Everyone takes their own approach to art, Linn. :/ I was entirely self-taught until a year or so ago--and probably too conceited about the fact for my own good--and have since learned a few exceedingly useful tricks, mostly in seeing things in subjects I may never have noticed otherswise. Being exposed and, yes, even forced into a wide variety of techniques logically expands horizons on anything, and higher ed is one way--and probably the quickest, most practical way--to get that wide exposure.

I went to a world renown school.. at the time I was in illustration at Sheridan it was the best in Northamerica for its illustration course... now its tops in computer graghics.. and computer animation... there are crappy art schools at the lower levels as they are in any disapline.

2005-08-18 [cheesecake]: Wow. An arguement/discussion here. I'm self taught too but I believe an art collage can do wonders for almost anyone as long as you have a good teacher. If anything it modivates you to practice drawing more often. You see I'm rather lazy. This past year is the first time I've actually compleated backgrounds on my fantasy art.

I feel the pain of the money problems too. I just found out what my collage tutition is going to cost. Let's just say that I won't be eating very much next year.

In a contest, I personally wouldn't want to win knowing that other entries were left out, it wouldn't really be winning if everyone wasn't involved, and if you weren't up against all the entries, like here, regardless of it the left out entry is any good or not.
